Annual Visual Arts Commission 2025
Creative Scotland multi-year funding has allowed Summerhall Arts to preserve the annual Summerhall commission and offer one visual artist or designer the opportunity to produce a piece of work to be exhibited permanently in the public spaces on the Summerhall Site. This, the first annual Summerhall Arts, Summer commission focuses on celebrating this inspiring historic building and asks artists and designers to submit proposals to re-imagine the windows of the iconic staircase, that overlook the courtyard. We are looking for a piece of work that may be printed onto transparent vinyl to mimic the effect of a stained glass window.
We are offering a commission fee of £1,500 in addition to printing and installation of the final piece.

- 26th May – Selection Announcement
- 27th May–6th July – Production of Work
- W/C 7th July – Printing
- W/C 14th July – Installation
- 25th July – Launch Event
How to Apply
Please submit applications to with the subject: Summerhall Arts, Summer commission proposal.
Proposals can be in written, video or audio format. Proposals should be no longer than 2000 words and should include your artist bio, evidence of your previous work and brief description of your concept supported by sketches or a rendering of the final image.
