Summerhall Arts Surgeries: WIP Showcase Opportunity

Summerhall Arts Surgeries is an artist development initiative led by Summerhall Arts. Presented during the Fringe, the opportunity gives artists the chance to showcase unfinished works-in-progress to an audience of national and international peers and industry figures. Summerhall Arts Surgeries will provide a safe, collaborative and creative playground for artists to try out new ideas to local and international audiences, gaining industry and peer-to-peer feedback.
All forms of live performance are welcome! Theatre, movement, spoken word, interdisciplinary work and everything in between. This opportunity is less relevant to visual arts practitioners or filmmakers.
Summerhall Arts Surgeries is a celebration of the spontaneity and playfulness of the Fringe atmosphere – where new collaborations are formed in ticket queues, between performances and in post-show conversations in the bar. At these scratch events, artists, industry figures, groundbreaking performance and innovative unfinished ideas will be brought together to create a vibrant space for networks and partnerships to form.
Each Surgery showcases 4 artists or collectives, meaning there are 8 slots available across the two events. Successful applicants will:
- Be paid a fee of £120 for their performance (£120 per artist up to a total of £360 per scratch performance)
- Be offered an optional one-to-one call with the event producer to discuss their performance and any questions
- Receive peer-to-peer and industry feedback post-event
- Receive professional photos of their performance
Summerhall Surgeries scratch performances should last a maximum of 10 minutes. Rehearsal space is not included. There will be tech available but we recommend that you keep requirements to a minimum.
