Getting Started in Producing with Steph Connell
15 Jan, 2026 @ 10:30 am - 5:30 pm

Starting an artistic project can feel overwhelming. Often at this point, you’re flying solo with lots of big, beautiful ideas — but sitting down and actually starting (or even knowing where to start) can feel impossible. That’s where a producer can help.
Getting Started is an introductory workshop for emerging producers and self-producing artists who are right at the beginnings of an idea. Across the day, we’ll break down the fundamentals of producing and help distill your next big thing into simple, achievable steps to get you on the road to making it happen.
What We’ll Cover
- What a producer actually does
- How to talk about your project
- Figuring out what you need (money, people, time)
- Project timelines and planning
- Building a basic budget
The day will also include space for group discussion and peer exchange — a chance to meet others at a similar stage, share ideas and build connections across the sector.
Who it’s for
This workshop is designed for:
- Artists self-producing their own work
- Emerging producers looking to build experience
- Anyone early in their producing journey or moving into producing from another discipline
The session focuses on small-scale, studio-based work and is best suited to those at the early stages of developing a project.
Participants should come with an idea they can use as a case study throughout the day — this could be something you’re already working on or just a new concept you’d like to explore.
